Years ago, Melanie followed her husband, Kurt, from the New England beach town where their two young sons were thriving to the suburbs of Atlanta. She's carved out a life as a successful metal sculptor, but when Kurt leaves her for another woman, having the tools to cut up their marriage bed is small consolation. She's old enough to know that high school reunions are often a big disappointment, but when her best friend makes her buy a ticket and an old flame gets in touch to see whether she'll be going, she fantasizes that returning to her past might help her find her future.until her driving phobia resurfaces and threatens to hold her back from the adventure of a lifetime.

When her best friend, B.J., signs her up to attend their high school reunion, Melanie is forced to pull herself together and replace her preoccupation with her husband, and that fact that he has left her, with fantasies about her ex-boyfriend. Narrator Lesa Lockford effectively portrays Melanie's initial self-doubt as well as her growing confidence as the story develops, especially her determination to overcome her fear of driving. Though Lockford's narration conveys the humorous and touching aspects of the story, her portrayals of the secondary characters are somewhat lackluster, and the transitions between them, slightly blurred. Lockford's timing and modulations are also a bit off, leading to some distracting jerky narrative. M.F. (c) AudioFile 2013, Portland, Maine
